The protagonist of this story is Ida.
Ida never speaks.
She could speak, but speaking is difficult. Because when you speak, you have to say things. Ida has so many things inside that… she tries to keep them inside, but when the things inside become too much, then she has to speak: the New Girl. The New Girl speaks with a voice that comes right out of Ida’s mouth, but it’s a very strange voice. Everyone has one. The New Girl, when she speaks, always wreaks havoc; she says everything that is growing inside Ida, like a volcano suddenly erupting words, she uses the wrong words in the wrong way. When she does that, the adults get very angry. With Ida, of course. One day, the New Girl… disappears. Ida decides to go look for her. It is a symbolic search for the words she needs to say the things that are inside her, because everything she is hiding inside her has to be expressed somehow, even now that the New Girl has disappeared. Her adventure will lead her out of her little world to find the object of her search, a “self” with a whole new guise. Ida e la Bambina Nuova is the story of an inner quest, to inspire the courage to always search for one’s own words, even when it’s difficult to talk about the things inside, even when that path seems longest.
