A biography of folk singer, poet and painter Violeta Parra filled with her music, loves and hopes. The story is punctuated by Parra's suite (coincidentally titled) Gavilán, composed in Paris in 1959, in which she laments a deceiving encounter between a prairie hen and a mountain hawk.
